Modernizing Legacy Frontends Without a Big-Bang Rewrite
February 18, 2026
Most aging interfaces do not need a dramatic replacement. They need a sequence of strangler steps that preserve the business while replacing risk.
Big-bang rewrites look decisive and often stall. The current system continues to change, the replacement is late, and the organization is left maintaining two incomplete products.
A more durable approach is incremental: assess, prioritize, strangle, validate, migrate, and optimize. High-value journeys move first. APIs are modernized so new experiences are not trapped behind old contracts.
Frontend modernization can happen in slices — a design system, a new rendering strategy, a replacement for one customer flow — while the rest of the estate stays in production.
The measure of success is business continuity plus a shrinking amount of unmanaged debt, not a single cutover date.
